Background/Education
Alison grew up in Gahanna, Ohio and attended St. Francis DeSales High School.
She then pursued an education in Theatrical Set Design at The Ohio State University, only later to discover that her true passion was for interior design. After reconsidering her educational goals, Alison earned a bachelor’s degree in Residential Design with a special emphasis in Visual Merchandising.
Experience
While in college, Alison participated in an internship with a local interior design group, Connie Coultrap and Associates in Granville, Ohio. There she gained experience working on residential, hospital, and hotel design projects.
Alison also received direct experience with designer window coverings and framing while working for her father at H.J. Nieman Inc., a Hunter Douglas fabricator.
Alison recently relocated to Akron and where she worked as the Designer for La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries in Fairlawn. Alison is now pleased to be the new Store Designer for the La-Z-Boy Furniture Gallery at Harvard Park.
Design Philosophy Alison approaches each design project on an individualized basis. She believes that the design process should be tailored to the unique needs and wants of each client.
“A Designer’s purpose is to creatively find solutions to a client’s environmental problems. These problems can range anywhere from basic functionality to purely aesthetic. Through collaboration, I believe that I can facilitate client satisfaction with each of my designs by encompassing function and aesthetics in a delicate and balanced way. As a designer, I hope to see all of my clients smile about being able to go home to a space they love. It gives me great joy to be part of company that offers a complimentary design service.”
